Dankook University
Dankook University is a private educational institution in South Korea. The university was founded in 1947 as a college. The campus was originally located in Seoul. It had 960 students in 2 faculties of law and 3 faculties of the humanities. Dankook became the first university in the country founded after the National Liberation Day of Korea. The main goal of creating Dankook University was to improve the country through talented graduates, patriots and experts who will contribute to the development of Korea and the whole world. The motto of the university is "National Salvation, Independence and Self-Sufficiency". The symbol of Dankook is the bear, which represents endurance, diligence, self-support and courage.
Dankook received university status in 1967. In 1978, the Cheonan campus was built to expand the range of social sciences. The second current Jukjeon campus was founded in 1995, where the Seoul division of the university soon moved.
To date, the university has 2 campuses: Jukjeon and Cheonan. Over 38,000 students study in them, of which 1664 are foreigners (data for 2019). The teaching staff consists of almost 3,000 people, of which 500 have the status of professors. Education is conducted in more than 200 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs. The university focuses on the development of information technology, biotechnology and cultural sciences. In addition, a Korean language center operates at Dankook University.
Do not forget at the University of Dankook and scientific activities. The university hosts international symposiums and publishes various academic journals, and operates 22 important specialized research institutes. Among them are the Oriental Studies Research Institute, Information Display Research Institute, Buried Cultural Property Research Institute and Special Education Research Institute, Medical Laser Research Institute.
According to the QS World University Rankings 2022, the university ranks 28th in the country and 751–800 in the world report card.
Location and equipment
Dankook University has 2 campuses: Cheonan (Cheonan) and Jukjeon (Chukcheon) in Yongin.
The Jukjeon campus is home to students whose interests are in the fields of culture and information technology. The Cheonan campus focuses on biotechnology and medicine. A biomedical cluster has been created here, which includes the school of biological sciences, medicine, dentistry and pharmaceutical sciences. The University Hospital, founded in 1994, is the largest general hospital in Chungnam Province with 800 beds and 25 departments. In addition, there is a dental clinic.
Jukjeon Dental Hospital was also opened in 2010.
The library network of the university is represented by the central library of the Togye Memorial (Chukchzhon) and the Yulgok Library (Cheonan). The total library fund includes 1,800,000 volumes, as well as about 2,000 Korean and international academic journals and voluminous digital archives. Also, the infrastructure of the university includes several different subsidiaries, such as the Seokjuseon Museum and the Information and Communication Center.
For the comprehensive development of students, there are a number of leisure and sports facilities. Students are offered a wide range of activities: from volunteering, to cultural activities (tea ceremony club, calligraphy club, dance, theater, choir) and sports (baseball, taekwondo, football, mountaineering and much more).
